5k: SpitV6: 1972 Triumph Spitfire with Ford V6
The Triumph Spitfire was a small roadster built in the United Kingdom to compete with the MG Midget, Austin Healey Sprite and to some extent the Fiat 850 Spider. The Spitfire is one of the better looking and handling of the small British sports cars but it held back by a gutless 1.1 4-cyl. This isn’t a problem for the well equipped gearhead and many engines have been swapped into Spitfire bodies over the years. Find this 1972 Triumph Spitfire with Ford V6 offered for $3,500 in Tucson, AZ via craigslist.
It is hard to tell from the low-resolution photos, but this Spitfire seems to have a set of fender flares and a considerable amount of light dings/dents. It isn’t enough to scare you away from a sub $4k car, but figure repair costs into any offer you want to make on the car.
The original 1.1 liter inline-4 has been removed and this Spitfire is now powered by a 2.8 liter Ford V6 mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The additional increase in power is welcome, but the increase in torque will be instantly welcome by any driver.
