5k: Sedantary Market: 1967 Dodge Coronet 500
You don’t need to be a comic book villain’s henchman to appreciate the allure of a 4-door intermediate sized Chrysler product from the 1960s. The big Dodge/Plymouth sedans are cool, but the market has been depressed for years, which isn’t a bad thing at all for someone who just wants a cheap useable classic. Find this 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 for sale in Oakland, CA for $3,800 via craigslist. Another tip from KBZ.
It isn’t just the Dodge 4-door market that has been low, just about any 4-door classic with a coupe version is worth scrap value when compared to the 2-doors. Chalk it up to the fact that the 2-doors were less common when new and more desirable now and classic supply/demand economics dictates that the sedans should be cheap. This should not pose a problem to the family man who just wants a fun classic for the weekend as at the end of the day for about $4k you can get this Dodge, a basket case inline-6 powered Mustang or DT’s own VW Beetle.
The 4 door version will give your back seat passengers are easier way in/out of the car and reduce the stress on your arm when swinging the doors shut, so it is win/win all around. This Coronet is powered by a 318 cubic inch V8 that is have been rated at 230 horsepower and 340 ft-lbs of torque when new.

318 V8? MEH
Google tells me 230 hp on the stock 318, which seems adequate, if not especially exciting. There also appear to be a bunch of decent bang-for-the-buck mods (examples here, here, and here), some of which seem easy enough to accomplish. The rest of the car looks great, you have to admit, and the price is nice.
The spelling Poleece have arrived. Its sedEntary……….as in: I have become sedentary from doing nothing more than looking at DT on my computer for hours on end!
Back to the car. I beg to differ on the 4 door issue. These cars were family haulers, grandpa's cars..or if you would ……for squares. No kid in his right mind would drive a 4 door if he could avoid it back in the day……….unless it was some big ole 40's Packard etc. Anything from the fifties or sixties……..solamente dos puertos por favor.
That said this example looks well cared for and if you want to pretend to be Mad Man's secretary….go for it!
Anonymous,
Sedentary is certainly a word. Sedantary is a pun about the lack of movement in the sedan market…

P.S. Please see Commenting Commandment II below.
Your Joking @ this price a 2 door might get there.
This price seems pretty good for the SF Bay Area. Where are you located, approximately? Did you see the thread a couple of weeks ago with the car carrier? We were joking about driving it to Wichita and Tulsa to harvest some ripe vintage plums, haul them back to Cali, hose em down, squirt a little Armor All … Profit!
This is a car that one would buy, drive for a couple of months and sell for exactly what was paid for it. Its not about how cool/fast the car is. I don't know about others, but for me, I'd rather drive this otherwise useless car for a couple of months as opposed to putting the same around town miles on a newish blandmobile. Non-gearheads swoon over stuff like this in the grocery store parking lots here in CA. If you have a summer project in the back yard, this thing has a pick-up sized trunk which would be ideal for hauling mulch, bags of concrete, you name it. We're talking $3,800 if you pay what is being asked, figure it'll go for $3500 and be worth the same $3500, next month or next year.
I like the symmetry between front & rear side windows. Triangle, square, pillar, square, triangle.
Huns: +1
Depending on your transport costs, you may come out ahead after you are done with it and want to move it on to the next caretaker.
You got it.
@DT: My abject apologies on not "getting" your clever pun on the word 'sedan'. A faux pas much more serious than violating Commandment II in my eyes, given my unstnting appreciation for your wordplay. I must have been in literal mode that day! Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, mea maxima culpa!
DFRWN2012 – if I'd have know this was a comment from a regular such as yourself I would not have been quite so brief in my reply. No need for apologies, in English, latin or otherwise as it wasn't the best pun of the week. Carry on commenting!

Brevity is the soul of wit………said some self proclaimed wit, once. Luckily you did not turn your guns on me any more than you did! Properly chastised yet curously emboldened, I carry on . You're doing a great job and I for one appreciate it!
Lovely looking car, but you've got the year wrong. It's a 1966 Dodge Coronet. There are some differences between the two years. If you know your Coronets, you might know what they are. If you don't, look at the front of the car, look at the grille, and turn indicators on the outer sides of the grille. And then head to the rear of the car, and look at the taillights. The 1967 Coronet, although it shares the same body appearance, has details that make it look different. 🙂
