15k: Seller Submission: 1966 Volvo 1800S with GM V6 Swap
Last week when we featured the oddly cheap 1800ES estate sale special, we promised to not post another Volvo 1800…that week. Thankfully, it is now a new week and the Volvembargo has been lifted! Find this 1966 Volvo 1800S with GM V6 for sale in Mission Hills, CA currently bidding on ebay with a $2,550 bid and a $15,500 buy-it-now. Seller submission from Oprah85 on ebay.
This Volvo left the factory with a simple four-banger under the hood and the basic 60s sports car honesty that makes them so loveable. That honesty has been taken away and it is now a monster…but a glorious tribute to hot rodder ingenuity.
Pop the hood and the entire engine bay is filled with a 4.3 liter Vortec V6 from a 2007 Silverado that is rated at 280 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs of torque. The fuel injection and modern technology should make for an excellent turn key cruiser/commuter/hoon-mobile.
The seller includes a nice walk around video that shows the car running. These sort of walk around videos add a lot to the still pictures in an ad and I can’t for the world imagine why ebay prevents its sellers from including links to videos.
See another Volvo 1800 with a plus sized engine? Got your own submission? The first one is free….and the next one…and so on. tips@dailyturismo.com
I always wondered if this was possible, I mean reasonably. Looks like it is. I like it, a lot.
Oh man, this is sweet. If I was on the hunt for a daily, I'd be all over this!
A set of nice wheels & tires would go a long way to improve the character of the car.
Maybe a few red highlights on the wheels to finish the look.
The speedometer & tachometer looks like they came from a boat. I like how they were set in the dash but the needles just don't work.
Ohh, and the single circuit master cylinder and drum brakes are a it scary with 280hp!
I did not know that the 4.3 V6 was so potent. Wifey's 96 GMC Safari with the early Vortex4.3 was a slug. (but dead reliable)
That said, the build idea is very cool and about 80% complete in the right direction. I likey!
The owner has got more done on his "S" than I have completed on my "ES" so I should have no room to comment either way. But I still will anyway.
Rene,it has disc brakes on te front, these calipers are frequently used by bmw 2002 guys to upgrade their braking power on their track cars. The rears have huge drums, not stock Volvo.I agree on the wheels,I had my eyes on a set of enkei compes
I realize that there are discs in the front, however later 1800's have rear discs. So an upgrade should have been in the cards to handle the extra power. The single circuit master cylinder is really scary for any brake system.
Side note: I looked at the pictures a little closer…Can the tape job for the paint work be any worse? Paint over the bumper covers, over the wiper shaft bases, etc. It's pretty bad if I could do a better job. The air conditioning and dash board seems well done. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde must have been working on this car.
Although I havent painted this car I agree on the taping. Those details can be taken care of by the next owner,if he cares.
Hmmmm, Chevy rates the 4.3 in 2007 at 190 hp. I doubt a set of headers are the result of an addtional 90 ponies.
