10k Seller Submission: Targa Thorsday: 1961 Volvo PV544 Sport Restomod
The Volvo PV544 was the first unibody automobile from Volvo and featured an early version of the legendary B-series inline four mated to the rear wheels. Volvo produced an impressive 440,000 of the 1940s styled hunks of metal in 18 years of production. Find this 1961 Volvo PV544 Sport for sale in Mission Hills, CA currently bidding on ebay for $5,100 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go. Seller submission from ebay seller and DT regular Oprah85.
This 1961 PV544 is presented in a very nice two tone – cream and green paint job, the accent colors on the fenders helping to accentuate the flared fenders 1940s styling. This car has recently been driven in the 2013 Targa California and survived the journey with minimal issues.
The stock B16 engine has been removed and replaced with a much more modern and powerful B20 I-4 that puts out 130 horsepower according to the seller. This should be a dramatic improvement over the VW beetle-esque pace from the stock engine.
This PV544 has recently been the subject of an extensive renovation, including a complete bare shell repaint and has an immaculate interior. This certainly is a case of a car that could potentially be a great source of the previous owner’s time/money.
Being a classic, this car is eligible for California’s YOM plate program and we would certainly spend the few hours figuring out the paperwork and the $200 or so on a set of used 1956-62 issue yellow plates. See a better targa car? email us here: tips@dailyturismo.com
~ gorgeous restoration and the interior is fabulous. dash inserts are very attractive. i'm curious what type of fasteners were used on inserts and on door cards. i'm not crazy about the bumpers but that is a small matter and may look much better in live action.
My first car was a '59 54 in the same tan color, minus the black fenders. Ah, the memories!!!!!
