10k: Classy Driver: 1952 MG TD
The MG T-series introduced cool handling convertibles to a generation of
US servicemen during WWII and many of them found their way back to the
states after the war. The MG TD was sold from 1950-1953 as an
improvement over MG’s (Morris Garage) previous generation TC and it
featured such novel items as illuminated gauges and rack-and-pinion
steering. Find this MG TD here on eBay currently bidding for $12,000 with 3 days to go, located in Valparaiso, IN. Tip from Cameron.
The TD series was a big step forward in refinement from the TC series because of its addition of independent coil spring suspension. Aesthetically the car was also a big leap forward, with shorter wheels and smaller fenders, it looks like a post war car.
Under the hood is a 1.3 liter overhead valve XPAG inline-4 that produces 57 horsepower and pushes the TD to a top speed of 77 mph.
The inside of the TD is very basic stuff, just a steering wheel, shifter and a few guages — but you don’t need a touch screen nav to drive a car and the MG’s basic form is very pleasing.
