of the Golf platform (Golf hatch/coupe/sedan/GTI) and that was certainly the case in 1986 when this Golf Cabrio was born. It was sold alongside the Mk2, but sits on a Mk1 chassis and is one of the nicer preserved Cabrios you’ll find on craigslist. Find this 1986 Volkswagen Cabriolet offered for $12,500 in New Canaan, CT via craigslist. Tip from Cory.
Back before Volkswagen got in massive trouble for their diesel emissions cheating scheme, VW sold diesel powered Golf and Jettas that only cheated their owners out of performance. I’ve never owned a Mk 1 Jetta, but I did have a Rabbit diesel with the same 1.6 liter diesel lump of scrap iron and it was slow. Mind-numbingly slow. But the advantage of having an engine with the BMEP of a balloon animal is that the engine will last forever, or at least past 421k miles like this next thing. Find this 1984 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel offered for $2500 in Salem, MA via craigslist. Tip from ME.

They are fun little machines in […]

The Rabbit (as it was called in the USA) was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign – […]
The Christian feast of the Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th, (the word Epiphany comes from the ancient Greek work Τheophaneia meaning “vision of God”) and is a commemoration of the three Magi visiting the infant Jesus. Even though modern tradition involves gifts on Christmas day, the celebration of the Epiphany pre-dates St Nick’s sack […]
The first generation Volkswagen Golf was introduced in 1974 as the replacement for the aging Nazi-era designed Beetle. The Golf was a front drive economy car with roots in Audi’s history of front drive sedans, but was underwhelming to drive in stock trim. However, in 1975 VW introduced their GTI version that added sporting credentials […]
The Volkswagen Golf GTI Mark 1 was first available for the US market in 1983 and lasted only two years before the Mark II Golf was introduced. The Mk1 version is still considered by purists to be the best GTI and is prized for its quick reflexes and simplicity of design. Find this 1984 Volkswagen […]
