Sweet Home Haparanda: 1997 Volvo 850 Tiny House Wagon
My wife likes to watch the HGTV channel. To me they seem like the same show over and over, Tiny House Hunter Fixer Upper Make Over Flipper or some such. There’s not a lot of stuff for a petrolhead other than watch the backgounds for interesting cars. But what if you added a little extra for the gearhead? You’d probably come up with something like this. Find this 1997 Volvo 850 Wagon with a Tiny House on top for sale in Oceanside, CA for $14,000 via craigslist.
Even though the ad mentions lightweight construction of aluminium and cedar, you have to wonder how well this creation accelerates and drives, given it is a wrong front wheel drive wagon that was pushing out around 170 hp 20 years and 165,000 miles ago.
The loft bed is seven feet long and you can stand up in the back section as it features a 6 foot ceiling. It also has a sink, gas stove, icebox/refer (which is it?) and a toilet (which I’d pass on).
I’d say given the orange cart next to it, this photo was taken at a Home Depot. Probably where most of the house parts were sourced from. You have to hand it to them to use “leaded glass” windows and portholes vs. cheap vinyl.

Um, I think that year of Volvo requires the use of unleaded glass…..

Does it come with wheelie bars ?
Speaking of squat, I hope they beefed the crap out of the rear springs and suspension on this puppy. Cool project though for the modern day hipster-gypsy lifestyle (yo).
