Sunshine State of Mind: 1987 Nissan 300ZX Convertible
The Z31 generation Nissan/Datsun 300ZX did not get a convertible version from the factory…but there was a company in California that converted the coupe version into a ragtop for a fee back when new. This is one of the original 250 convertiblized cars that still remains on the road today, so the price is higher than you’d expect for a Z31. Find this 1987 Nissan 300ZX Convertible offered for $7500 in Parker, CO via craigslist. Tip from Jeff.

This is a rare 1987 Nissan 300ZX with only 95,630 miles. This is #116 of approximately 250 that the Straman company in California converted to a convertible. It is not perfect but in very good condition and is fun to drive. This has the 6-cyl non turbo engine with a 5 speed manual transmission.Fresh tune up last summer with new spark plugs, spark plug wires, and distributor cap. Tires only have 15k on them so plenty left. $7500 OBO.

One of the few convertible creations where it looks good with the top up or down.
DT – a place where one can find a perfect RADwood car
That side view looks very corvette like with the slicer wheels and missing rear glass
That's exactly what I said when I sent DT the ad. At first glance, I thought… "What's the deal with that Corvette…?!"
In profile I was thinking parallel universe Mercedes SL myself.

I hear ya. It's that flat trunk line!
"…so the price is higher than you'd expect for a Z31." Have you seen Z31 prices at auction lately, including on BaT? As a once-owner of the previous generation 280ZX, I got used to disparagement from the 240/260/280Z community, so I in turn disparaged the subsequent Z31s. No more.
Had a 90 300ZX was following a Miata with a cute young blond gal to local parts store i struck up a conversation with her she seemed friendly then asked how i liked my Firebird….Talk about a gut punch….rofl.
I do like this one and bet it would run along time for many more miles with out draining your pocket book.
