Mazda Powered: 1970 MG B GT

This next car comes as a tip from Kester who writes: Why do I like this so much? Is it because it’s so wrong and makes no sense whatsoever? I even struggled to send this in, though I know if I bought it, my wife would have me sleeping in it for the next month (and I don’t think the seats recline far enough…) She banished me to the garage once after buying a rusty old 914, but promised to never do it again as apparently I enjoyed it too much. The answer is easy — you like the idea of a reliable MGB GT with Mazda power and the patina of a WWII era battleship for next to nothing. Find this 1970 MG B GT offered for $5000 in Boone, IA via craigslist.

Has rust in the floors, and still considered a project car, but I’ve put over 500 miles on it trouble free.
Registered/insured and road legal, but would be better suited at the track
Only things that need addressed are a very choppy idle due to all the cold start items being disconnected. Brakes could stand to be bled again, and it needs the wire wheels balanced as it has a vibration from 45-58mph. I also have an entire original Miata wiring harness and ecm that go with as well as a big tote of extra parts
Asking $5,000 cash
Don’t have to sell it, and I won’t give it away

500 trouble-free miles. Somehow, I’m not all that reassured…
This thing needs to be parked in the doctor’s parking lot. It’s a moral imperative.
How else are you going to get a Miata with a back seat?
Owning a Pininfarina-designed car as always been on my bucket list but this would be a curious way to check that box. I’m a fan of Rat Rod treatments generally but I’d miss the elegant interior these cars came with. This is a cool car for what it is.
MG Guy to Mazda guy don’t be a Wankel now …… SO PISSOFF…!
