The top of the W116 Mercedes-Benz platform was the 50SEL 6.9, a feast of power, prestige and displacement. From the factory, the big 6.9 liter engine was only available with the long wheelbase version, but the seller of today’s vehicle shoved it into the short wheelbase sedan. The 450SE was a nicely appointed vehicle from the factory, complete with the 4.5 liter M117 V8 and many of the best luxury features you’d expect in 1976…unless you compared it to the M100 powered 450SEL 6.9; then it sorta looks like chopped liver.
The seller of this vehicle has shoved an M117 6.9 liter V8 rated at 250 horsepower and 360 ft-lbs of torque in the US spec version (the Europeans got an extra 45 horsepower, but I have it on good authority that they have to deal with women with hairy pits, so we’ve still got it better over here). Anyway, the big difference between the short and long wheelbase versions starts at the A-pillar, so putting the 6.9 into the standard chassis should be bolt-in job with some custom drive shaft work.
The seller also claims to have added most of the upgraded interior/dash pieces from the big plus sized Merc.
