5k: Needs Some Work: 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV
The Alfa Romeo 105 series coupe (known as the GTV) is one of the few remaining classic
Italian machines available for DT money. The 1971-76
GTV with its iconic twin headlights is the result of a masterful piece
of design work from Giorgetto Giugiaro of the Bertone design house. Nice examples trade above DT’s somewhat arbitrary $20k price limit, but you can stumble across a project for VW Beetle money if you keep your eyes open. Find this 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV offered for $5,500 in Colorado Springs, CO via craigslist. Tip from Zach Z.
This GTV will need a top-to-bottom rebuild. You need a mechanic, a body man, sheet metal fabricator, paint guy and probably a priest before this beauty is back on the road again. Then the 2.0 liter fuel injected inline-4 will fire up again and bring joy to countless people. Simple as that.

Anybody want to talk me out of buying this? How big a money pit is this going to be? I can deal with a money pothole, but a pit is out of the question. It looks like a disaster from here.
Never owned an Italian car, let alone a dilapidated Alfa. I'm fine with tackling most mechanical and electrical stuff myself, but the interior seems to have been inhabited by a tribe of goats. The car a bucket-lister for me, is only about 15min from me, and I have an itchy wallet finger today. Help me not be stupid?
This is the perfect car for the single man looking to fix it up and go cruising for potential wife. Ironically it is also perfect for the married man who wants to be single, because you wife will leave you after you start living in the garage and spending the kid's college funds on fixing this up.
But you should buy it so I don't.
Just went to have a look…it's all yours!
