5k: Jesse’s Girl: 1974 International Scout Baja Truck
Preparing a truck for the Baja 500 race will cost tens of thousands of dollars in safety equipment without starting to budget for performance or the original vehicle. The International Scout won’t win any of the unlimited class races ruled by the big sponsored teams, but it should be good for a classic class or maybe just some mudding around a local swamp. Find this 1974 International Scout Baja Truck for sale in Plaster City, CA for $5,000 via craigslist.
This Baja truck is setup for racing with a 345 cubic inch V8 mated to a 3-spd auto, a full roll cage and a 14 gallon fuel cell (seems small for anything other than sprint races) and the seller claims that it easily passes tech and has raced in a few races. The only question we have is…who is Jesse?

As a sea cave dwelling troglodyte, google is my only source of current cultural reference data. "Jesse Baja 500" returns one Jesse James, truck racer and proprietor of an establishment called West Coast Choppers, apparently he and it being of some TV fame, and he being the gentleman who notoriously admitted to mistreating his then wife, the elegant Sandra "all restaurants are Taco Bell" Bullock. Sandra, call me.
14g fuel cell?? Is this the norm for these builds? Seems you would get maybe 80 miles out of that at race pace?
Is that a piece of plywood for a front skid plate? Maybe I just need some coffee.
