5k Flash: 1979 Mercedes Benz W116 280SE
More good stuff from one of our favorite ebay sellers, pebbleandrock (aka cerealmarshmallows), this time in the form of a W116 – the original version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class – for Sonderklasse or “special class.” This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 280SE W116 sedan is for sale on ebay for the bargain price of $2,750 buy-it-now in San Diego, CA.
This 1979 W116 wears its cattle-pushing US spec bumpers with pride – albeit at a bit of a jaunty angle, but perhaps they all look that way… This example looks to be particularly well kept on the outside – with only the headlight surround plastic looking a bit dilapidated.
This 280SE is powered by the M110, a 2.8 liter inline 6 pushing out 142 horsepower into a 4-spd automatic transmission.
The W116 looks nice on the inside, a testament to the build quality of the ’70s era Mercedes product, and the MB-Tex covered seats look great.
We think this car is a steal at $2,750, but its new owner will need to deal with California smog laws if local, so it probably is a reflection of the pre-75 cars being less of a headache. We give this car a 3-thumbs up.

Looks like a nice car. Engine with 160k miles is just broken in.
