5k DTween: 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse Horrorod

As we continue the countdown to Daily Turismoween we would like to feature another Horrorod, this time one that was prepared by the factory to deal with zombies.  This 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse is for sale in Washington, IN, currently bidding on ebay for $1,125 reserve-not-met with a buy-it-now of $5,000.

This Fleetwood started life as a 9th generation Cadillac Series-75 Hearse, complete with flip out seats for pallbearers and a sliding mechanism for caskets that likely weighs 700 lbs.  This hearse has been converted from simple funeral duty to a Halloween weekend ride for lunatics, complete with custom graphics and green ground effects lighting.

Seeing this car driving down the street would really scare the pants off anyone – Halloween weekend or not – there is something just wrong with grown men driving around in full creepy costumes.  The Fleetwood is powered by a 7.7 liter pushrod V8 that puts out 375 horsepower and a stump pulling 525 ft-lbs of torque, more than enough to roast tires and run through packs of zombie trick-or-treaters.

Inside the rear of the hearse has two foldup airline stewardess style seats next to a complex sliding mechanism that holds a casket in place.  Personally we don’t see the appeal of driving a car around with a casket in the back, but it could come in handy given 1970s crash standards.

At the buy-it-now price of $5000, you are paying $1/lb for this hunk of steel, not a bad price, but not a fantastic deal either.  But if death is your thing, nothing beats driving around in a hearse.
