5k: Dented Driver: 1966 Volvo 122S Amazon Coupe

Even ignoring the ridiculous $36k sale that turned out to be a mistake, the Volvo 122S / Amazon market has been in flux recently.  A year (or two?) ago you could pickup a running, mostly original driver for $5k, but today that same car is going to be listed for closer to $10k.  Blame it on the new found wealth of the hipster crowd or the bearded college professors who finally have the cash for their “dream” car, but the days of cheap/dirty vintage Volvos are almost behind us.  Find this 1966 Volvo 122S Amazon Coupe for sale in North Hollywood, CA for $5,500 via craigslist.

As much as it pains us to continually post west-coast cars – but the rest of the country is covered in some sort of polar vortex created snomagedon, so even if someone has managed to save his 50 year old Volvo from the ravages of mid-western rust, he certainly isn’t going to roll it out into a blizzard for a few craigslist pics.  Or wear a tank top while doing it.

Under the hood of this thing is a Volvo B18 4-cylinder engine that makes 95 horsepower from its 1.8 liters of displacement.  The B18 used a robust 5 main bearing design and is legendary for its ability to withstand years driving to/from college campuses, tattoo parlors and ironic hat stores.

This Amazon is a decent looking example with a 4-speed gearbox, but it does need a few dents ironed out.  It is nothing a good body shop (or maybe even one of those paintless dent removal guys) could take care of in an afternoon and a few hundred bucks.
