2k: Cheap and Simple: 1971 Opel GT
The Opel GT was a compact sports car by GM’s European subsidiary Opel
and is commonly called the poor man’s Vette in reference to its styling
similarity with Chevrolet’s C3 Covette. The Opel GT has been cheap enough for years that scores have been crushed and sometime soon we expect the remaining cars to keep appreciating…until then you can pick up a cheap example anywhere. Find this 1971 Opel GT for sale in St Paul, MN for $2,000 via craigslist. Tip from Pushrod.
The pictures in this advertisement are terrible and the description leaves much to be desired, but the selling price is right up the alley of cheapskates like the writers at DT. The fact that the car is all original but needs work shouldn’t discourage anyone with a garage and a set of tools. However, the words Opel and minimum rust should put fear in your heart.
Is this a car that simply needs a few weekends to get it back on the road, or a Pandora’s box that should be left unopened? See another cheap project? tips@dailyturismo.com
