5k: Classy Ragtop: 1965 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet

The Fiat 1500 was a large family car built in Italy and was available as a sedan, wagon, coupe, or cabriolet.  Some will complain that its 1.5 liter engine is light on power compared to contemporary competition, but the Pininfarina-designed body is gorgeous enough to forgive any serious shortcomings.  Find this 1965 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet currently bidding for $4,850 with 4 days to go on ebay, located in Novi, MI.

The Fiat 1500 was used as the basis for the later Fiat 125 and a few Eastern Bloc classics, but in its original form it looks quite nice.  The coupé and cabriolet models were designed by Pininfarina and look more like something from Maranello instead of Turin.

Under the hood is a 1.5 liter inline-4 good for 73 horsepower, which is closer to something you’d find in a MG Midget instead of an MGB.  With the 1.5 liter engine trying to haul around the mass of the Fiat 1500 it won’t be quick in a straight line.

The interior doesn’t look bad, and like the exterior looks like a good driver example.  This would be the car that you buy and don’t mind putting a few miles on, taking it on a weekend trip or driving it to the grocery store for a fresh six pack.
