5k: Classy Ragtop: 1965 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet

The Fiat 1500 was a large family car built in Italy and was available as a sedan, wagon, coupe, or cabriolet.  Some will complain that its 1.5 liter engine is light on power compared to contemporary competition, but the Pininfarina-designed body is gorgeous enough to forgive any serious shortcomings.  Find this 1965 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet currently bidding for $4,850 with 4 days to go on ebay, located in Novi, MI.

The Fiat 1500 was used as the basis for the later Fiat 125 and a few Eastern Bloc classics, but in its original form it looks quite nice.  The coupĂ© and cabriolet models were designed by Pininfarina and look more like something from Maranello instead of Turin.

Under the hood is a 1.5 liter inline-4 good for 73 horsepower, which is closer to something you’d find in a MG Midget instead of an MGB.  With the 1.5 liter engine trying to haul around the mass of the Fiat 1500 it won’t be quick in a straight line.

The interior doesn’t look bad, and like the exterior looks like a good driver example.  This would be the car that you buy and don’t mind putting a few miles on, taking it on a weekend trip or driving it to the grocery store for a fresh six pack.
