2k: SVOdditty: 1994 Ford Ranger Turbo 2.3 Power
We see countless engine swaps in our quest for cheap junk and most involve swapping a newer engine into an older chassis (with the notable exception of swapping carburetor equipped Chevy 350s of indeterminable origin into every manner of vehicle). It is unusual, for instance, to see an engine from an 80s Thunderbird shoved into a 90s pickup. Find this 1994 Ford Ranger with turbo 2.3 power for sale in East Haven, CT for $2,500 via craigslist. Tip from Cory.
In smog controlled states like California it is often legal to swap an emissions equipped later engine into an older car – the theory being that modern engines pollute less, but swap a 2013 Z06 engine into your 2012 Prius and emissions will go up.
The original 2.3 liter pinto derived inline-4 has been replaced with another 2.3 liter pinto based engine, but this one is the turbocharged 2.3 liter from a 1988 Ford Thunderbird turbo coupe. The 2.3 turbo is good for 190 horsepower and 240 ft-lbs of torque – almost double the stock engine power.

Kool little sleeper for the money !
The 2.3 from the turbocoupe, the SVO Mustang, and the Xr4Ti is to this day one of my all time favorite engines. Parts are cheap (and you'll need 'em), almost as easy to work on as an air cooled VW… and with tinkering and some modified manifolds, the DOHC 16v head from a B234F (Volvo) could be mated to this block for 16 valve turboliciousness.
^^did not know. That sounds like a pretty sweet little motor, both for performance and maintenance.

I emailed the seller last week, he never got back to me.
