1k: Baby Hauler: 1986 Toyota MR2
The first generation Toyota MR2 is a small two seat sports car build to fit two short people and a few handbags for luggage. It is typically not known to be a family car, so when the seller of this one says “moms aren’t supposed to drive fun cars (apparently babies are supposed to ride in the back seat (whatevs)” we can’t help but chuckle. Find this “hooptie ghetto” turned “classic” 1986 Toyota MR2 for sale in Los Angeles, CA for $1,400 via craigslist.
Using your MR2 to pickup furniture from Ikea the Goodwill is funny, but putting a picture of your escapades in the craigslist ad is hilarious! It starts with some cute words about the funny looks the seller gets when she rolls up to a “Hollywood cafe with a stroller strapped to the spoiler” and ends with an offer for a “sample vial of Paris Hilton’s ‘Siren’ Parfum!” Just read it for yourself and enjoy!
This zebra print seat covered classic uses Toyota’s 4A-GE inline-4, a 1.6 liter powerplant that puts out 112 horsepower and is shifted with a 5-speed manual transmission. It should be noted that this one doesn’t currently run, but for $1400 it might be worth the risk.

What a great ad. I give her high points for wit, and originality.
Incidently, the brake light is most likely the parking brake, as it looks as though it is in need of adjustment (handle almost at the full extent of travel).
Decent deal, i remember a freind with one of these in '91, and if driven to the edge, could get out of line, more of a raw car than the MkII that followed it.
"Bring A Film Rights Option"
Oh wait, that's that other site. Still, the ad is wonderful.
"The seats are leather, though they've split at the seams, hence the stunning zebra patterned seat covers! In case you, too, have a newborn, the pattern is great for helping their eyes learn to focus. "
Just like the Porsche 928 Pasha interior ?
Pico and Robertson was the first place I ever slept in in the US. In those first 24 hrs I learned 2 things: a. Contrary to what I had believed I could speak no English at all, and b. the meaning of "drive by shooting". I bet the neighborhood is different nowadays, there were no hipsters around back then and the MR2 wasn't even a gleam in its genitor's eye. There was, however, a super kitsch tiki bar complete with murmuring brooks right nearby where we'd go and get loaded. Pico and Robertson! That brought back memories 🙂
