15k: Un-Pimp My Ride: 1978 Datsun 280Z LSX Powered
Commenter RyanM hit the nail on the head when he commented about the M3 powered 240Z from earlier this week: In a world where the answer to the engine-swap question always seems to be “LSx”, this is a refreshing change. It certainly was a refreshing change to see something like that, but as they say on the TV: we now return to our regular programming. Find this 1978 Datsun 280Z with Chevy LSX power here on eBay
currently bidding for $15,000 reserve-not-met with less than one day to go.
I’m not going to beat around the bush — there are some real cringe worthy modifications on this car…the wheels for starters…but just hold your judgement till you pop the clutch and take this thing for a spin. You’ll forget the hood vents and blacked out windows each time you mash the loud pedal.
Under the Datsun’s flimsy hood is indeed a glorious sight — the seller gives zero details about the parts used or power expected in this 5.7 liter V8, but anything shy of 400 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque would be a disappointment.
A peak inside confirms the seller hasn’t shoved some fun killing 4160 slushbox behind the LSX V8, but it uses a T-56 speed for proper fun. The steering wheel and gauges would be easy to change if they didn’t meet your needs.

Say what you will about the wheels (and I'll agree with you), but there's a lot right with this car. The 240z-style bumper conversion, for starters. I like the ZG style flares and headlight covers as well. The interior treatment is fairly tasteful, I like how they kept the stock-look radio.
What I don't like are tinted tail-lights and hood vents. Why not just use a stock 280 hood with stock vents?
Otherwise, this thing is really nicely executed. Wish there was more in the way of details, but as of right now the price is north of $18k so obviously someone saw something there that they liked.
Why oh why doesn't someone / anyone put the final selling auction price into the comments?
