1.5k Flash: Accelerating Depreciation: 1979 Audi 5000
The Audi 5000 is starting to become a classic in its own right – no longer vilified as a self-accelerating, rusting and unreliable menace. Find this 1979 Audi 5000 Sedan is for in Denver, CO for $1500 via craigslist. This one is equipped with a manual transmission, non-turbo 2.1 liter inline-5 engine putting out 103 horsepower and front-wheel-drive. This C2 series Audi (1976-1982) was not the subject of the so-called unintended acceleration affair. It was the subsequent, distinctively aerodynamic looking C3 (1982-1991) that became the target of the attacks. Wikipedia writes good summary of how CBS's 60 minutes produced faked test which condemned the car.
C2 series marked the start of Audi's challenge to upscale Mercedes and BMWs. It was quite popular in Germany.
There is no such thing as an Audi C2 or C3 chassis. This is a Type 43. Later (1984-1991) models were Type 44.

There seems to be 2 sets of nomenclature. I'm familiar with Type 43 and 44. Both English and German Wikipedia refer to C2 and C3:
Der Audi 100 C3 war eine Limousine der oberen Mittelklasse der Audi NSU Auto Union AG (ab 1985: Audi AG). Er löste im Sommer 1982 in der Baureihe den 100 C2 ab.
I'd rate this a "strong buy." Not worth shipping 2000 miles to MA. Bummer.
I had one of those in college – good highway cruiser.
