15k: E60 6-Speed: 2007 BMW 550i
The E60 BMW 5 series was the pinnacle of the controversial Bangle
styling – but will it stand out from all of the other beige mid
2000s cars years from now? Until it becomes a collectible you will
need to live with the funky styling, but the combination of performance, comfort, and status is hard to match at this price. Find this 2007 BMW 550i offered here on eBay for $14,800 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in Cleveland, OH.
BMW has done a great job of continuing to offer a manual gearbox in its executive class sedans, particularly in the 540i, 545i, 550i versions. A surprisingly large percent of the 550is for sale have the manual transmission and the current prices start to break in to E39 M5 territory. Would you prefer the extra few horsepower and limited slip rear of an older E39 M5, or the modern conveniences, lower miles, and comfort of the 550i?
The 550i is powered by the N62B48 all alloy 4.8 liter DOHC V8 pushing 360 horsepower into a 6 speed manual transmission. The 550i will match a 335i in straight line speed, but give up a few lengths in the turns — but it can fit 3 adults in the back seat.
The two tone interior looks in good shape and this car benefits from the 2007 mid-cycle refresh that updated the front bumper, head lights, tail lights, and slightly debangled the trunk. You gotta wonder if that 6-speed manual shifter has surprise a few valets in its day.

That interior looks almost-Audi seductive, to my occipital cortex. My first thought upon opening the eBay pics was how special that driver's seat would feel, shifter tucked snugly in palm, gluteus hugged by those coffee colored hides and the slightly tech-artsy dash spread widely in my lower visual field as I enjoy the musical masterpiece that is…Meagan Trainor. Or Taylor Swift. Or a sell-out version 2.0 Maroon 5. Jolted from my otherwise-pleasant daydream, my thoughts return to the aural pleasures from substituting that v8 at WOT for those "artists'" best attempts at a stardom of insignificance. Flying high once again, I imagine resting my arm on the center console…only to be greeted by the sub-millimeter depth defect in the rubberized paint that BMW used to coat all of their cockpits' soft touch surfaces at the time, and I am back to my senses. As alluded to yesterday's e90 post, everywhere you touch in this generation you are bound to find/create a slowly growing peel of this substance, revealing similarly colored (but not quite exact!) hard plastic underneath. I do not disavow my OCD so YMMV but my eyes and fingers were always drawn to these areas during my time with an e92.
Too bad the guy that made the nice seats didn't make the dash…

That sir, is gearhead poetry! Somewhere out there, a young gearhead just squirted some grease onto their workbench. (Eat your heart out John Pearly Huffman!)
What monster beat that poor car with an ugly stick so badly!?!

Darn you Imgur! You messed up my resize!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lordy.
My joke literally blew up in my face. Was it karma? Fate? Did the spirit of Bangle just b*itch slap me? Just as long as he doesn't try to design another car, I'm happy.
Now I'm just having fun. Have you seen the new television show Beige Is The New BMW?

Lordy, don't give me grief over the fact that the car pictured is a 530.
Good GRIEF Charlie Brown, Imgur did it to me again! @#$%^&*(

There's a nut loose in the driver's seat.
