10k: Mostly Complete Micro: 1961 BMW 700

The BMW 700 was an economy car designed by  Giovanni Michelotti and built from 1959 to 1965.  Following a cue from the Fiat 500, the BMW 700 was both unitbody construction (a first for BMW) and engine was placed in the back.  Find this 1961 BMW 700 offered for $11,500 in Pueblo, CO via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

This BMW 700  is described as a 90% complete restoration, which is way more desirable than a rusting hulk being used for a chicken coop.  The biggest concern is the wiring harness sitting on the floor in the pictures, but this is a wiring setup with about 10 circuits and rewiring should be a simple afternoon event.

The 700 used an enlarged version of the R67 motorcycle engine, a twin cylinder engine that puts out 35 horsepower on a good day.  The only transmission available when new was a 4-speed manual and with only 1400 lbs to move around it isn’t bad to drive.
