10k: Cheap Hardtop: 1965 Dodge Coronet 500

In 1965 the Coronet name was revived for use on a Dodge product, this time an intermediate sized sedan that immediately became the highest volume Dodge from a sales perspective.  The 1965-1970 Coronet has the classic shape of an American 60s sedan and it can be picked up with a V8 and power accessories for cheap.  Find this 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 offered for $8,950 in Maple Lake, MN via hemmings.

This Coronet 500 is powered by a 318 cubic inch V8 fitted with a 2bbl carburetor rated at 230 horsepower and 340 ft-lbs of torque.  Power is transmitted via a 3-speed automatic to the rear wheels, and while this won’t be a blistering fast drive, it makes up for speed with class and cool.

This inside of this Coronet is fairly basic, but being that it is the 500 (versus base or 440) it is equipped with a center console, floor mounted shifter and bucket seats.  The large diameter thin spoked steering wheel is attached to power steering system which should make this a relaxing cruiser.

The “spinner” wheels are period appropriate and cool, but personally I’d be tempted to put a set of simple steel wheels with fat tires and go for a vintage NASCAR look.  See another way to drive an old classic without breaking the bank?  tips@dailyturismo.com
