10k: And The Bid Goes On: 1963 Renault 8 1100
You’ve seen this 1963 Renault 8 1100 before…it was featured as a seller submission back in January of this year. The buyer is apparently a small time dealer located in Lawndale, CA and is now offering it for $8,750. Find it here on hemmings.
The same reason we liked it before still apply; it is a rare and interesting ride with an upgraded engine that looks good. The price has only gone up a few dollars and with some negotiating you may be able to pick it up for about what the dealer spent on it. The only thing we don’t understand is why does it have a German license plate that translates to “M Shovel?” The irony of that plate on a French car is unclear…
See another Renault 8 in good shape for less? tips@dailyturismo.com
Spaten is a beer that is made in Germany…. Maybe made in Bavaria. Munich, "M" on the plate is the capital of Bavaria. Maybe the owner liked that beer?
Or maybe he thought it was the M or motorsport version of a shovel. Most of these Renaults have long since been recycled into shovels….
Google reveals… promotional item for Spaten beer – I bet he had his regular California plate over the top of it, like all the clever Europhiles do
I guess the hood is kinda shaped like a shovel. Renault's headquarters is in Boulogne-Billancourt. So shouldn't it have a French plate that reads "BB Pelle" or some such slogan?
Yes i do like Spaten beer, got this plate at monterey historics last year. This is a tribute to the amount of Spaten beer consumed while wrenching on this R8
