10k: 13B Turbo Powered: 1979 Toyota Corolla

Another day, another Toyota Corolla…?  In truth the liftback Corolla from yesterday was featured because it was cheap and original, but this next one is anything but.  It features a turbocharged 485 horsepower Mazda 13B rotary engine and some seriously wide wheels out back in what is certainly not a grandpa car.  Find this 1979 Toyota Corolla with 13B rotary power here on eBay currently bidding for $10,100 with 1 day to go, located in Cohutta, GA.

This 3rd generation Corolla is known as the TE31 which designates it as a 2-door sedan based on its VIN tag, but Toyota also sold a hardtop coupe (TE37) and sports coupe (TE51) at the same time.  The little economy car was available in the US market with a 1.6 liter 2T or 1.2 liter 3K inline-4, both engines pushing out sub 75 horsepower figures….but that isn’t a concern today.

This Corolla has been given a heart transplant in the form of a Mazda 13B rotary engine fed via a massive turbocharged with a compressor inlet large enough to ingest wrenches, volley balls, squirrels and anything else you might find around your workshop not fastened securely in place. A Garrett GT45 is something you’d expect to find on a class 8 truck or some giant piece of earth moving equipment, not a rotary engine with a displacement equivalent to your kitchen measuring cup.  You will need to revv this engine to the stratosphere before it builds boost and then expect all hell to break loose.  Zoom zooOOOOOOOOM.

On the inside you will find a roll cage (in case you ever need to bash your head against something hard, this comes in really handy), a decent condition set of interior, and a baby seat.  Best.  Parent.  Ever.
