Why Is This Appealing? 1994 Ford Escort LX Wagon

When I first received this tip with a rave review from DT regular Art C, I thought perhaps Art needed his CO2 detectors checked for function…but then I spent some more time examining the curves of this appliance white Escort and decided that I like it. Perhaps I got a computer virus from the tip? Anyway, some words of wisdom from Art: I don’t know why, but I want to buy this. I think it’s the blue interior combined with a manual wagon that is making me a little hot and steamy…Seriously though, this thing looks to be in GREAT shape! It’s a shame that motor is a dog and ford 90s build quality left something to be desired. Guaranteed to be the only one in your neighborhood though. Five speed wagon yay!
Electric mouse seat belts boo.
I bet that five speed 94 Escort wagons are pretty rare and those that survive are usually beat to near death.
The perfect car to remember what normal generic cars were, run a few errands, and pretend that the various apocalypses we are in the midst of aren’t even movie plots yet, and “the road” is evocative of Kerouac not Cormac McCarthy.
Man I miss the 90s so goddamn much. The economy was good enough to pay the national debt down, jobs were plentiful, Intel released the P3, my Dell stocks split twice, lookalike CUV’s weren’t a thing and you could buy a nice unpretentious Mazda based Ford wagon for carefree motoring.
Also: I miss hiphuggers. Today’s high-waisted pants on ze ladies look dopey. Cringey, actually.
I saw an old escort hatchback on the road the day I sent you this link… hadn’t seen one in… years? Maybe it’s a sign of the impending apocalypse
Also one the answers to the trivia question of “name a super rare car that will never be worth squat”
My father had one for a while when I was growing up, except it was teal – even more of a period piece. The 1.9 wasn’t exactly a powerhouse, but the 5 speed makes it fairly tolerable to drive. And it was fairly capable on washed out dirt roads.
