What Am I? Rose Pedals
Welcome to another edition of DT’s cure for the Monday morning blues — What Am I? In this better than drinking coffee that was strained through a used tube sock game
we find a random picture of a car and you get to guess what it is. Last
week, I posted a picture of the inside of a V12 powered Mercedes-Benz sedan and enjoyed watching the readers find the model family and later the actual car. Today’s WAI feature shouldn’t be too hard…or is it? Just what am I anyway? Wow…that was quick. Update with answer below.
Comments below.
Regular DT reader and tipper Gianni came through with the correct answer 4 minutes after posting…this is a 1990 Mazda Miata MX-5 currently bidding for $7,100 on eBay…but the thing only has 6k miles on the odometer!
This is about as factory fresh of an NA-series MX-5 you’ll find without a time machine. The current seller purchased it from the original owner 18 months ago when it had less than 1000 miles on the odometer and he has driven it another 5k. Seems a pity that the value in such a nice specimen will be in NOT driving it around, or you could try pulling a Ferris Bueller…but that never ends well.
NA series Miata footwell.
To be more precise, a 90-93 NA Miata as the 94+ got a different dash.
Well done Gianni. 4 minutes, that might be a new record.
Vince, I think you need to make these WAI posts a bit more difficult. Our readers are too good!
I was lucky, I just so happened to have my head in the footwell of my '91 NA changing a fuse yesterday.
also, a red one…
MY 2000 Miata
Crap—was too busy digging on the Interwebs to notice others had replied. Repeat, F5 is my friend, F5 is my friend………..

Sorry, posted something snarky about the seller of this listing, but if you can't say something nice…
Do NOT suggest to this seller that "oh, pretty engine, but hey that's where the LS3 goes, right?"
Read the whole ad. Seems he feels unworthy of this pristine Neo-classic. Me? I'd take that thing and have 30k on it in 12 months, easy. All fun miles, at that.
One item in the ad caught my eye: he states that the first Miata brought into Oregon was yellow. Iirc, they were available in R/W/B only that year, weren't they?
That's the exact same thing I thought. The first Miata into Oregon couldn't have been yellow, as that wasn't available until 1992.
Yep, the Miata.net FAQ says 1990 colors were Mariner Blue, Classic Red, Crystal White and Silver Stone Metallic (mid year 1990). Sunburst Yellow was a 1992 special edition.
Wow, I'm record-breaking terrible at this game. I own a red 91 Miata and I could not guess this car. Ugh.
