What Am I? Mt K2 Edition
Welcome back to DT’s Monday morning cure for amnesia, also known was Who Am I? Wait. That can’t be right. The special Monday feature is What Am I? Or so the voices in my head tell me… anyway, this week K2 Mystery Car offered to pose a challenge for our readers in the form of a What Am I? puzzle.
From K2:
I have a submission for a possible future What Am I
feature, if you’re interested. The image is a clue, not a picture of the
actual car…or is it? I created it myself.
It is not an air-conditioning unit. 🙂
Guess away gents.
I swear. Heck.
It isn't a scan of my colon, either.
….or is it?
Isn't that the infamous "weapons of mass destruction" reconnaissance photo of Iraq that got us into that mess.
I was blaming GB all along and I should have been blaming K2.
I will go with Volvo even though Miata is always the answer.
Oooh Volvo – is it a drawing of happens on the inside of your windshield when your V70 heater is set to defog and it's core fails catastrophically? Because a similar thing happened to my S70.
Low resolution topographical map of the world's second tallest peak: K2.
Is it a pencil drawing of what happens when you leave a jar of Lucas brand wire smoke for a TR7 open?
Nice Lucas reference Ryan

Nice Lucas reference Ryan
That's an attempted drawing in lead pencil as a passenger in a Lexus CT200h.
I found Waldo!
All brilliant answers. You guys win a prize for effort!
Smug Smog from a Prius?
photo of mercedes dashboard walnut burl run through photoshop > monochrome > enhance contrast > find edges > charcoal
This is sweet, kbz.
Is it an extreme close up of the carrera marble of the rear passenger trays for the new rolls royce dawn?
Is it a map?
I like your thinking, Bill.
hmm
google thinks it is a picture of Imogene Pass near Telluride Colorado. K2, are you there for the festival ?
No thanks. I prefer glamping.

Honda Ridgeline
That's a very smart guess, W.
Trabant at 100x magnification
I'm new at this game, but how about a photoshopped image from an Allard K2 dashboard like this:
motorbase.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/pictures.ubh/2007/01/22/fs_1950_Allard_K2_Roadster_red_int_dash_gauges_mx_.jpg
Welcome, David! Got any other guesses?
BTW, requests for clues are encouraged and will be honored…
Animal, mineral vegetable or vehicular?
Shucks. How about a posterized image or tops map of K2 mountain? Final answer.
Vehicular…I guess? Because the answer is a make, model and variant. Honestly, I'm not sure how to answer your question properly. Maybe consider a final final answer?
Google Terrain map of the Nurburgring circuit.
Ha! I thought you were commanding us to do so, at first. But you weren't. I get it now.
I once had coffee go down the wrong pipe, causing me to cough it all over the instrument cluster of my Wrangler. It looked something like that.
Good Lord! I'm glad you didn't choke to death, Tony. That's really painful, when that happens. Not sure if this is a great clue but you might be onto something…
The glue left behind on the windows after removing the 80's era bronze window tint on my 85 CRX Si?
I've heard sniffing that stuff is not good. Would you concur?
Looks like a horribly-buzzed (like, 13 tabs or so) pencil drawing of one of those old 50s GM rear ends, I'm thinkin' maybe a Buick, left-side rear, vertical taillight with an exhaust outlet in the bumper below that, and a bad outline of Texas on the left side of the trunk, above the license plate. Or that's what the little green men in my head tell me, anyway…
Ha ha! Nice one, Brugeo. I like that we're getting comments from DTers that don't comment all that much. That's awesome!
This is my first attempt at this game, but I'm guessing it's a picture of sheet metal. It looks like someone has been formally or accidentally testing some kind of abrasive tool or etching product. Generally, there seems to be a preference for BMW and Volvo products on DT. In my experience Volvos are much more likely to be product testing "mules" then BMWs, so obviously this is a photo of a trunk lid of a 1979 Volvo 262C Bertone coupe.
Very creative, Greg!
I think it is a freeze-frame, enlargement of the motorcycles racing in the A-ha music video for the song Take on Me. If it is not the actual vehicle, then it is a clue leading me back to the same video. Okay, back to my '80's radio station.
DonS
Great reference! Now I wish it were true. It's funny how many people dismiss "80s music" without realizing how vast and truly complex it is. There are so many songs and bands that were fantastic but nobody knows about them.
It's a heavily-massaged closeup of the fake-trim pattern Buick inked on the dash trim of the Rendezvous (their version fo the Aztek).
I think I see Sasquatch… or is it Jimmy Hoffa? Topo map of the lost city of Atlantis?

That's actually really cool. Save that one for a future What Am I!
Okay, last guess for me. It's accent upholstery fabric that will be in all the new 2016 Elio cars, which are almost ready to go on sale. Well, by almost ready I mean they collected $30M in crowdsource funding. Well, by collected I mean that a bunch of people promised they would give $30M, but they really haven't given anything yet. Look, all they need to do is go to the SEC and set up the legal mechanism to collect the money, then actually collect that much money, then set up the production lines, then hire the people to staff the factory, then … Correction, this is the 2018 Elio upholstery material.
Again, all you guys win points for creativity! Many of your answers are actually more interesting than the correct one.
I shouldn't have written that; it probably pissed off Anonymous. Dammit! Why do I keep doing that?!? I suck.
This better not be a part from a Hoover!!

It Dam well better not be.

Edran Enigma, Daihatsu Charade, Rolls-Royce Phantom …
It could be a phantom enigma wrapped in a charade…hmm, interesting.
Is it a topographical map of Mount K2? Not the second tallest mountain the world, that would be too obvious, but the second peak of Mount Kitchener in Alberta near the border with British Colombia?
I think you're lying to us, and it is actually an air conditioning unit.
Note: The "I'm not a robot" thing had a picture of a Panoz Esperante, how cool is that?
Maybe even as cool as an air conditioning unit.
So I left a comment last night that I don't see this morning. Either I was too far into my altered state or the guess picture changed from last night. I saw a mid year Torino driving through a crowd of Zombies…….
Cobra?
Which one?
Dunno. You said it's a clue and it looks like a snakeskin. So I thought Viper-nah, and then figured Cobra is the most likely based on the number of Cobras, and Mustang Cobras that are out there. But that's the limit of my brain capacity. It is however Wednesday and this was posted Monday so I don't feel too bad. Perhaps the collective wisdom of the group. . .
I was thinking Shelby Cobra too, but more because the pic sorta looks like hammered aluminum.
Nuts! My apologies if I said or implied that a Cobra is a clue. It isn't. I was just wondering which Cobra you were talking about or if you were referencing Tom's comment. Just curious is all!

So it's not a Cobra snakeskin in vinyl…
No, it is not.
Yes…I just saw it again…the cobra Torino if there was one. The six sided " mouth" grill year. I wasn't too wasted! Maybe.
Nobody believes you.

This face is in the right bottom corner turning it 90 degrees counter clockwise.
Sorry; nobody believes you weren't too wasted. The answer is not a snake of any kind. Though they surely are there….
so which Cobra….I think I see stitching …what Cobra would be cheesy enough to have fake Cobra skin seats?
Snake skin auto body wrap…
RR Silver cloud.
Lexus SC birds eye maple close-up…

LOL.
It sure looks like it if you enlarge the door!
You have a point.
A clue for you, clue for you
As Tom Minch downs another brew
Before his vision again goes black
This WAI a DTer will surely hack
May it lead you down the trail
To find the answer without fail
The conclusion will come with much affair
Before it's all too much to grin and bear

Really..
Sorry Tom!
Black Bear Road, a 4 wheel road – Forest Service Road 648 near Telluride, CO. Goes up over Bear Pass at 12,800ft, then down into Telluride at about 9500ft. The Advice they give is "Don’t go with bad brakes, don’t go if you are a novice wheeler, don’t rent a Jeep in town and think you can handle this trail, don’t go alone, don’t go in the rain and don’t go if the weather forecast predicts rain or thunder." So no Cobras of any kind.
And so the answer is….?
I guess a good old merican Jeep, but maybe you're looking for something more specific to a trail experience like this: ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Wrangler-Rubicon-Sport-Utility-2-Door-/271984739681?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3f538dc561&item=271984739681
Yes; looking for a specific make, model and variant here. Judging by the link you provided, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is not the correct answer.
How about the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Black Bear Edition (the clue being an aggressively obfuscated scan of the topo map on which the hood decal is based)? Hopefully the prize for winning is the vehicle itself!
Bingo! Winner!

All you folks that guessed that it was a topographical map or a Jeep also deserve street cred. You know who you are; reach up, bend your elbow and pat yourselves on the back!

In a million years I would not have come up with the correct answer without all of the Topo Map and Jeep guesses that preceded my guess. (I thought it was a picture of a Formica table top from a Vanagon myself). Chalk this one up to a team win and one lucky google search.
Surely you're not suggesting that communication solved the puzzle. Sharing and gathering information from each other in a social forum = a good thing…whodathunkit?
Nice win, MB and a nice shout out to your fellow DTers.

That was a really good puzzle. I liked the clue poem, too.
Rats, I've even driven this trail multiple times in a Jeep and I still missed it. Shame on me, and nice puzzle.
