What A Pile: 1979 AMC Spirit

The AMC Spirit was the successor to the outgoing Gremlin subcompact and was essentially a Gremlin without the funky styling…which when you get down to it is a pretty miserable formula for a car. A surprising quantity of Gremlins have avoided crusher because of style, but the Spirit was crushed en masse like a bunch of beer cans in a giant crusher. Today we found one that hasn’t be crushed…yet. Find this 1979 AMC Spirit offered for $3,600 near Kansas City, MO via craigslist. Tip from Jason.

I have a 1979 AMC Spirit Project for sale.
It has a strong 232 (3.8L) 6 cyl Engine and Auto Trans.
This car has been in inside storage for over 20 years.
There is only just under 79,000 showing on the odometer.
It is completely original including paint matching hub caps.

I have it running decent but carb needs gone through or rebuilt.
The body has a few rusted areas…(Top of Fenders, Left Rocker panel)
Otherwise the Frame and the Floors are very solid.
The inside isn’t perfect but it also isn’t in bad shape.
The Gas Gauge does not seem to be currently working.
It may also need a new or rebuilt Brake master cylinder.
I believe the heater core was leaking a little so it is by-passed
I did put in new plugs and changed Oil and Filter when I got it.
I have drove this car around my neighborhood a few times.
These little Spirits have become fairly rare and harder to find.
I bought this car as a project but it is time to pass it on.
It does Run, Drive and Stop but should be trailered or Towed.
3600 Cash and I Have the Title all ready to sell.

I’ll bet that the baby blue interior and the drivers red pants were a stunning combination back in the day.
The things people do to make a buck. There’s no shame any more.
