Turbo Couped: 1968 Volkswagen Beetle
This next feature starts with an interesting introduction from the seller who writes: Vw rat rod. As of this point I can’t remember the year. I believe the
pan is a sixty eight, and the body is a sixty five, sixty six, sixty
seven, and so on…didn’t Johnny Cash sing a song about this automobile? Thankfully this VW rat rod is offered for the price of something that was taken one piece at a time and didn’t cost the owner a dime. Find this 1968 Volkswagen Beetle offered for $2,000 in Kitsap County, WA via craigslist. Tip from JB1025.
The builder (identified on the side as Moose Hound Customs) has spent a few hours getting the rat rod look down on this Vee-dub. Little remains of the original Volkswagen proportions, but the end result is certainly an attention getter.
Powering this custom is a Ford 2.3 liter turbo out of a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe — which would have been good for 155ish horsepower when new, probably a few more when you use a bigger intercooler and open exhaust. It appears that the seller “blew the tranny”, so this thing will need some work before you can terrorize the neighborhood.
See another chopped up custom that needs a new home? tips@dailyturismo.com
For those keen on getting pulled over by the police several times per day. I am not sure why the builder used wood to hold the gas tank in place. To make sure when the fire starts it has something to burn besides your feet?

Lacking a little something called "craftsmanship"
Hey it is a Rat Rod…….".It's a Lovely Day" thank's for posting could be a lesson on how not to do things also …
Those seats look lovely, don't they!
Since you mentioned it:

The Father of Country Rap………..!
Still, $2k for a giant erector set is pretty decent. My fav was blowing the transmission up on the first ride. No working up to speed, seeing if things like brakes, steering and suspension are all tightened down.
Nope, hole shot – blam. This deserves to make the rounds for the next 20 years or so, never getting finished, folks just taking a stab at making it more cobbed up and with even less of a prayer of every getting on the road.
Then in 2036, the old fucked up VW Rat Rod market will go all haywire like 356 Porkers swept into Hefty Cinch-Saks. Patience fellas, patience.
So tested tough but broke it…….sheeeet.
A new low.
Don't think my recycling bin is big enough.
Might get a few pennies out of the Ford tooth-rattler 2.3.
Yea those seats look like 800 milers to me. That'll be the distance you throw them after an afternoon ride around the neighborhood. Assuming you can still move. Not sure about the interior accouterments either…. or having 2 electric fans sucking your hair into them while doing 25lbs boost runs to the grocery store…. but whatever! I would buy it just for the suicide doors and the body rake!!!

Are those shopping carts? I guess they make up for being uncomfortable and dangerous by also being really heavy.
