Turbo Couped: 1968 Volkswagen Beetle

This next feature starts with an interesting introduction from the seller who writes: Vw rat rod. As of this point I can’t remember the year. I believe the
pan is a sixty eight, and the body is a sixty five, sixty six, sixty
seven, and so on
…didn’t Johnny Cash sing a song about this automobile?  Thankfully this VW rat rod is offered for the price of something that was taken one piece at a time and didn’t cost the owner a dime.  Find this 1968 Volkswagen Beetle offered for $2,000 in Kitsap County, WA via craigslist.  Tip from JB1025.

The builder (identified on the side as Moose Hound Customs) has spent a few hours getting the rat rod look down on this Vee-dub.  Little remains of the original Volkswagen proportions, but the end result is certainly an attention getter.

Powering this custom is a Ford 2.3 liter turbo out of a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe — which would have been good for 155ish horsepower  when new, probably a few more when you use a bigger intercooler and open exhaust.  It appears that the seller “blew the tranny”, so this thing will need some work before you can terrorize the neighborhood.
