The Hulk: 2004 Volkswagen Dune Buggy
Volkswagen’s original Type 1 Beetle was a simple car. For years you could find cheap examples in junkyards,
parking lots, and garages around the globe. Naturally the Type 1 was used as the basis for countless kit cars, such as the iconic Meyers Manx dune buggy. Today’s example is a custom job, and might just be cool enough to pull off a green metallic paint job. Find this 2004 (??) Volkswagen Dune Buggy here on eBay bidding for $5,600 with 2 days to go, located in Westminster, MD.
The seller lists the car as a 2004 model year, and perhaps the fiberglass body was bolted to the VW pan in 2004, but I certainly hope for the sake of people from certain states that the car is titled as a classic. Most states have exemptions from smog / safety inspections after the car hits a certain age, and there is no way this thing would pass a smog test for a 2004 emissions level…anywhere.
The 1600 cc dual-port, dual-carb air-cooled opposed 4-cylinder is advertised as a “BAD ASS RUNNING MACHINE” (ALLCAPS FOR EMPHASIS) and is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The interior features a set of heavily bolstered “sport” seats and you have to climb over the custom fiberglass to get inside.
