The Deadliest Catch: 1927 Dodge Taxi
Fairbanks to anywhere in the continental US is an eternity in a 90-year-old vehicle. Rest assured by the end of the trip – 4,367 miles to my house, anyway – you and the ol’ Dodge would be best friends or worst enemies, should you survive at all. Depending on the hand you were dealt, it could take so long that you end up needing a green card for re-entry. Find fodder for a questionable road trip, a 1927 Dodge Sedan for sale in Fairbanks, AK for $4,000 via craigslist. Tip from Zach
The image of the Dodge in a prairie next to a cabin looks like a scene from a novel that you didn’t read in high school. The seller states that the car has been off the road for a while and all it needs is some tender loving care, and by that he means hard-to-find parts. Given the amount of stuff around the yard, I’m sure the current title holder will be willing to negotiate some sort of survival trailer kit to drag behind you. Or maybe it’s a better plan to snag that P71 in the background and slip a chain through a length of pipe to tow it home.
There is no spare tire so you can forget about that safety net. Tires are certainly a concern but the best asset or worst liability, a Jeep motor swap, remains to be determined. Possible a Go-Devil four, it’s conceivable that this Dodge could be driven fast enough to blow the glass out and maybe even keep up with traffic. Consumables will be of a considerable magnitude over this proposed North American passage; be sure to stock up on oil, water, grease, gear oil, brake fluid, Cooler Ranch Doritos and whatever else you can think of.

Maybe bring some babbit, just in case….
I'll pack my crucible!
Bear grease, don't forget that one.
Well, the price reflects that the drive-train isn't original.
craigslist suggests "early jeep motor and trans," which could still be as old as 1941.
it's nothing i'd be interested in, but it is fun to see on DT. at least it's not a euro spec BMW or a volvo with a chevy engine.
Amos,
It has been at least a day since we posted a BMW…I'd better get searchin!
