Smurf Rider: 1966 Ford Fairlane 390V8 4-Spd

The Sell It Now Store is one of various eBay resellers who will take your neglected junk and sell it for you on eBay for a small percentage fee.  Most of the stores are filled with grandma’s antique Avon bottle collections that folks are too busy to sell, but every once in while they sell a car.  No problem with that because the seller pays the fees out of the vehicle sale and the third party test of the car is somewhat reassuring.  Find this 1966 Ford Fairlane 390V8 4-Spd currently bidding on eBay for $5,800 with 4 days to go in Waukesha, WI.

This fifth generation Fairlane started life with a simple inline-6 and 3-speed, but it was transformed into a V8 powered 4-speed machine by the current owner.  The blue paint job is also relatively new and described by the Sell It Now Store folks as “it would win a local show, but the paint is not a $5000 job.”

Power comes from a 390 cubic inch (6.4 liter) Ford big block V8, which would have been rated at as much as 335 horsepower if it was an original 390FE V8.  It is not clear if the engine has been built to higher power levels or just pulled from an old pickup truck, but with any luck it could be a screamer.  And scream you will when you try to haul this thing down from any significant speed with the unassisted disc/drum setup.

The inside is a bit of a mess; the seats aren’t in great shape, but the worst part is the rat’s nest of wires under the dash.  It wouldn’t be too difficult to sort them out with some loom and a few zip ties, but it makes you wonder about the build quality on the rest of the vehicle.
