Ready For Wrenchin: 1952 MG TD

My own Dad owned and daily drove an MG TD back in the day. Or, I supposed he daily walked his MG. My father wasn’t the most mechanically inclined person and after a few years of constant problems the car was given to a mechanic who demanded a regal ransom for a new set of piston return springs and some synthetic muffler mounting bearings. Despite this family history, I’ve always had a soft spot for the early pre-war styled MG T-type. This next example is a perfect father-son restoration project which could make it three generations of terrible mechanical reliability if I do this right. Find this 1952 MG TD offered for $5750 in Burbank, CA via craigslist.

A TD was our family car until I was about 5 or so. Sat on tiny Mexican straw chairs wedged between the seats and the gas tank. The doors would open unexpectedly in corners, that was exciting.
Looks like a deal.
I think the pile of dirt on the passenger seat says it all for this one…
