PRNDL: 1992 Honda Accord
This next car got my hopes up. When you see a 90s Honda Accord with less than 100K miles on the odometer and an asking price that isn’t too riduclous, you get excited, right up till you take a look at the inside. Argg, slushbox. With a similar-era Toyota or Chevy Pickup, it’s not as big of a letdown, but Honda made such nice snick-snick smooth shifters that seeing the giant hambone shaped unfun hammer sticking up above the PRNLD is just pure bleh. The flipside to the automatic conundrum is: most automatic cars got spared the sound thrashing their manual counterparts got from the Fast n Furious wannabe’s. I owned a mint condition 99 Legacy wagon for a while, purchased because it was so visually nice, but the auto slushbox killed the fun. I can’t imagine that a Honda automatic could be remotely as bad.
I prefer the gen before this, it has an absurdly low hood and was quite angular. I wonder what the favorite generations of the Accord are among our fellow DT readers?

This one. I loved just about everything about this generation. The huge greenhouse, the seemingly standard sunroof, the amazing 5 speed on a four door sedan. Just so damn good looking…
