I was all set to go for the easy laugh and write some snarky commentary about the poor, misunderstood Pacer, but then I read the text of the ad and it got me to thinking and almost brought a tear to my eye. I will let you read the full text of the ad below, but I leave this question to you in the lead in: What will you do with your old crocks when you can no longer care for them? Find this 1976 AMC Pacer for sale in Bothell, WA for $3,300 via craigslist.
Here’s the ad text with my emphasis added:
Thanks for looking at my 1976 Pacer. I have owned it for several years and have at different times done some maintenance. It was my project car and I had some fun with it on the way, car show, and lots of attention. So now I have decided to sell and let someone younger have at it. She runs good and the interior is nice, I’m selling as is because I can no longer maintain it.
Owning a Pacer and maintaining it over a long term would have to be a labor of love. It must be hard to get to the point when you can no longer devote time and energy to the object of your love and have to put it on Craigslist for its next keeper.
I’d have to think that the Pacer is an acquired taste, with a small potential pool of younger buyers that have acquired that taste. Seems like selling anything on Craigslist leaves a bad taste for the seller, so it must be concerning to sell off what amounts to a family member. I’m sure watching it drive off will be a sad day for the current owner.
