This next car comes from tipper Watch Carefully who writes: Today I discovered this: It’s a bit of a resto-mod, but true to the original 454 model with NACA ducts, etc. My dad had the 4-door from 1973, bought new when I was a kid, and I always thought it was among the best looking muscle cars of the 1970s. sadly they ruined the rear end design with the revision for 1974, so this is a 1-year-only, improved version of the original Grand Am (don’t get me started on what they became in the final iterations). GM saw it as competition for sports sedans from BMW & Mercedes (…that’s a good one). Nonetheless, it is what it is…very cool and decidedly uncommon. Had I the money, garage space, and brownie points with the wife, I would probably bid on this (and swap it for a manual). Hopefully, someone in DTland is into it. Find this 1973 Pontiac Grand Am Coupe here on eBay bidding for $5925 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go located in Winter Haven, FL.
DT’s cub reporter Hunsbloger continues: I was around when these were new and sold 1 or 2 of them used. For their day…these were badazz. v455 with tons of torque, very nice interior (this has electric windos) No mention whether it has the 90-degree swivel seats that you rotate towards the door to get out, but I’ve never seen one without. That shifter is actually a GM factory slap-stick or bump-stick
It works like this you pull it down to first and push/pull the shifter to right. Then when you’re ready to shift, you push it up to the next detent. It works remarkably well when you’re trying to drag someone and don’t want to worry about pushing the shifter too far. Once it caches, you push it again and go for third when ready. My memory is a little foggy on it, but its one of those things that immediately intuitive the first time you try it. The interior on this looks really good, the paint especially the painted bumpers are kinda “meh’ But it should get some solid bids even though it sits ridiculously high off the ground.
From the seller:
Up for sale is a 1973 Pontiac Grand Am Coupe with a 455 and TH 400, 4BBL, 3.73 rear, 15 inch tires.Hole shot converter. Originally a 400ci.This car also has and comes with a Supercharger and intercooler(no installed in pics)by Procharger. Engine was built for the supercharger, low compression. The engine was machined 40 over and built in a New Jersey engine shop, painted here in Florida. All other resto, parts, painting, every nut and bolt cleaned or replaced to factory specs by me. Took a long time to find parts and build it. Frame painted all new, bushing, well everything, there is to much to list. Would encourage an inspection and to talk about it. Down side, heater core has a hole, but do not need it here in Florida, so that would need to be replaced. Tranny set up for strip, so i would change that for highway driving. Runs great, fast even with the low compression and without the supercharger. Paint, well there is some orange peel on the bumpers and was not buffed out well enough in places, but all can be fixed. It is a 69 Firebird Windward Blue Irid. Have extra paint, i did say i had it painted in Florida rite?Everything works except for the clock, and ac since the supercharger takes its place.was in the process of getting one of those digital replacement clocks. Also the Edelbrock valve covers are changed now to Mickey Thompson covers. The edelbrock covers cracked at one of the bolt holes.Although not seen in the pics, it has the rare rear ashtray at the back of the center console. You do not see any of these around anymore. Selling because i want to move on, have a vette that i need to do. Price is negotiable, alittle. Deposit of 250.00 thru paypal within 48hrs is required if you win and is non refundable.Cash or cashiers check at pick up, cash at pick up within 7 days would be preferable, car will not be signed over or leave the garage until check clears.if i do not hear from you within those 7 days, car goes back on the market.
