Old School: 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Maxi Taxi

Out of all the bizarre looking Volkswagen Type 1 based kit cars you can buy (Siva Spider, Fiberfab Aztec, custom junk et cetera) there is something called the Maxi Taxi that appears from time to time, and it has an interesting history that isn’t entirely clear.  Stick around and you might learn something…or tell us something about it!  Find this 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Maxi Taxi here on eBay with an opening bid of $5,000 located in Port Saint Lucie, FL.

From what I can gather from Timothy Timm’s theMiniMark blogspot site, it appears that the Maxi Taxi was conceived by DeWayne Creighton who built a number of different Beetle based kit cars in Bremen, Indiana at a still functioning company called Bremen Composites.  However, for the most part the trail on information for the Maxi Taxi is pretty bare.

The basic form looks like a classic buggy style custom, but the Maxi Taxi is a fiberglass bodied car that was built in some unknown quantity from the factory in Indiana.  The original ’65 Beetle engine has been upgraded to a 1600 cc dual-port engine for a few more horsies.
