Odd Man Out: 1986 Manta Montage
Another day, another Manta? Wait…what? You might remember Manta as the Costa Mesa based builder who put together the insane Mirage kit that was designed to be fitted with a small block V8 engine — we featured one a few days ago. Apparently Manta didn’t stop producing kit cars when the pot haze of the ’70s cleared and they built a cocaine fueled car in the ’80s called the Montage. Find this 1986 Manta Montage here on eBay
bidding for $4,995 reserve-not-met in Utica, MI with 5 days to go.
A red Montage was a feature of season one of the TV action/drama Hardcastle and McCormick (1983-1986) where it was called the Coyote X and did lots of jumps and hooning around the street. This one has been off the street for at least 5 years, but the seller has owned it for 20 years.
The Montage was VW based, but powering this one is a Chrysler 2.2 liter Series III turbocharged 4-banger from a Shelby Daytona that has been modified to produce 300 horsepower according to the seller. It should be a complete handful on the street, but you’ll need to finish a few things first.

I'd just like to point out that that engine inside a fiberglass body was what made Warren Mosler a name worth knowing.

Not only another Manta, but one with a Dodge Shelby Dayton engine!
This place has the corner stone on the two and now the two mixed together.
Maybe rename the site Daily Manta and Daytona?
Did anyone else notice the 'ALMOST DONE' written on the uh, wing support in the last picture?
