Miami Vice Style: 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Koenig Wide Body

By Cory — Are you the kind of person who may a) own a cigarette boat b) have a Member’s only jacket c) know all the words to song Smuggler’s Blues d) leave your top three shirt buttons undone e) think a Mercedes 300ce is too conservative looking? If you answered yes to three or more of the following, we may have the car for you, this 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Koenig Wide Body owned by recent baseball hall of fame inductee Ken Griffey Jr.

The seller claims this Koenig is one of 20 conversions ever old here in the US. The car was purchased at auction with a missing front fender which our crafty seller had to fabricate from scratch as these type of body parts do not exist. Originally a white car, it was then painted dark green with a yellow striping to match Griffey’s baseball team. The car now wears a very uncommon and subtle factory color Bornit Pearl Metallic after receiving extensive body work (pictures available).

Despite having $25,000 in restoration costs, the car is still said to be unfinished and listed without an asking price. There are no details about the drivetrain so it likely powered by 217 hp straight six engine mated to an automatic transmission which would provide rather leisurely acceleration compared to its racy looks.
