Indestructible: 1997 Toyota 4Runner

I thought that the Toyota 4Runner is one of those cars that has seen a slow but steady price increase over the past decade, but this next car appears to be offered for a reasonable amount of money. The seller says that it is 2-wheel-drive, which surprised me for a car that is called a 4Runner, but I guess Toyota had a 2WD version for people who needed ground clearance and off road capability, but didn’t need to go off-road. Anyway, the seller also claims it has a V4, which isn’t true unless someone swapped in a Saab Sonett drivetrain, but it is probably the 2.7 liter 3RZ-FE 4-pot. Find this 1997 Toyota 4Runner offered for $8300 in Mountain View, CA via craigslist.

I am selling my 1997 Toyota 4Runner 2wd Rare V4 Engine, Manual Transmission. It has only 156k. It has never been in an accident. Runs perfect. Clutch was done at 120k miles. There is no timing belt on the car. Saves gas. Interior is in great condition and it has good tires on it. Oil change was done about 2k miles ago. I get it done every 4-5k miles. I had it about 2 years. It has never given me any problem. Maintainance cost is as low as $120 for oil change every 6 month if you use full synthetic oil. Spark plugs and ignition coils are done about a year ago. Please serious people contact me. I can’t go too low. It’s hard to find low mileage 4runners.

This was my step-daughter’s first car, but with the V6/auto. It had a 155k on it when we bought it and it ran like a top for another 20k+ miles. She loved it and so did my Mother in Law as she would drive it when visiting.
Unfortunately, when making a left turn across a freshly rained on intersection my step-daughter lost control and got broadsided on the passenger side bad enough to total it…… ðŸ™
At least there was enough there to protect her. I’m getting my daughter a tank when the time comes.
