Beetle Based: 1969 Porsche 917 Kit Car
Why have I been featuring so many kit cars these days? Is wanting to drive a home built car that looks like a crappy version of something awesome a lesser known symptom of coronavirus? I thought I was coughing from the fumes from this leaky Volkswagen engine, but maybe its the COVID?? Is it social distancing if I leave a big gap in traffic because I’m uncertain the brakes are gonna work on the first pump? Find this 1969 Porsche 917 Kit Car offered for $13,999 in Encino, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

A fun and beautiful recreation of the Legendary Porsche 917 race Car .
Just as the car Steve Mc Queen drove in the movie Le Mons.
Car is built on VW chassis with VW engine 1500cc.
No Speed demon but will keep with traffic. Does 70 MPH on the freeway easy and feels like 130, the car is so low!!!
Very cheap and easy car to work on and have fun with.
Very fun and cheap car for the weekend-s and car shows
At the Porsche corral in every car show.
I am in the Encino area
See a better way to drive something that says “Gulf Porsche” on the side? tips@dailyturismo.com
Ain't foolin' nobody as a real 917, but this has the potential to be a fun one. As long as the body and glass are all good, the rest is easy VW stuff. The price seems nuts though. I don't think it's a five figure car.
If it was mine, I'd do a thorough mechanical sorting, detailing, maybe find a driver's seat so I didn't have to sit on the wrong side of the car and contort to reach the pedals… Then I'd ditch the 1500 for at least a 1776, but probably a 2 liter with a custom exhaust. That current motor is an eyesore for this car. Then I'd come up with something better than those trailer brake lights and hit the streets or the autocross.
Also, anyone else notice that this car used to be painted a heavy metalflake gold (hello 1970s)? And that it's parked in the garage with a Bentley?
that La Mons gold metal flake was real popalar on those minnestoa 'jolly rogers' boats back in the day although they actually got a v8.
Has there ever been a more mismatched exhaust to body style? It's like lifting up the pants/skirt of your fling and finding something unexpected.
(Trying to be gender neutral there, not sure if it's working…)
Well it’s certainly bigger, has a more luxurious interior, and is probably safer than a real 917.
Subaru swap ?
