This next car comes as a tip from Cory who describes the car in simple terms as “running and driving”. That is a strong description for a Porsche Boxster that is offered for less than the price of a single wheel for a new Boxster. Apparently this car did have some issues at one point […]
The C5 generation Corvette was a simple step for GM’s engineering team, but a huge leap forward for Corvettedom. It introduced the world to a Vette that wasn’t just a good-looking cruiser with a big V8 because this thing could finally corner like a sportscar. Today we’ve got the cheapest C5 that I’ve ever seen […]
I hate to do this to you guys, because this next car is ugly. Real ugly. Uglier than a monkey’s armpit. Uglier than a Kardashian without a corset. Uglier than a mud fence. Uglier than a Bangle butt on a Bugatti. Uglier than a LeCar. U…G…L…Y, you ain’t got no alibi. Feel out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down to the ugly pit. Uglier than a shaved ape in a Birkenstocks. Ugg. Beauty may be skin deep, but ugly is to the bones…this car is bound for the crusher or nearest 24 Hours of LeMons racetrack, you decide. Find this 1989 BMW E34 540i 6-Speed offered for $500 in Glen Burnie, MD via craigslist. Tip from Cory.
I’ve got a good friend who drives a classic Triumph GT6 that looks a bit like this next car — and it is a bottom of the barrel project, but people stop and take photos of it and he gets celebrity treatment everywhere but Pebble Beach. Most people don’t know what a Triumph GT6 is, but that is part of what makes ownership fun. Find this 1970 Triumph GT6 offered for $4300 in Phoenix, AZ via craigslist.
This next car comes as a tip from Johnny Bouncewell who writes: Would be a wonderfully funky car when complete but I value my spare time, spare money, and can’t afford the divorce that this would inevitably bring. Maybe one of the other DT’ers has a bit more flexibility to bring this svelte beauty back to its proper state? Find this 1970 Lotus Europa offered for $3000 in Las Cruces, NM via craigslist.
This next car comes from tipper Zach who writes: It was <not> the best of times. I don’t know what you’d do with this thing. A modern ecoboost monster of some sort? Cram a 302 in and just saunter? Grab the drivetrain from a Prius and don’t amaze your friends? At least you can feel […]
Why have I been featuring so many kit cars these days? Is wanting to drive a home built car that looks like a crappy version of something awesome a lesser known symptom of coronavirus? I thought I was coughing from the fumes from this leaky Volkswagen engine, but maybe its the COVID?? Is it social […]
Its been a strange recovery from the 2008 automotive crisis. First off, the $1000 drive-able cars that used to litter craigslist/autotrader have all but disappeared, and the bottom of the heap Honda/Toyotas cost $4k. Blame cash for clunkers for a huge number (710,000 by some accounts) reduction in cheap/running/driving cars from the marketplace, followed by […]
I know, I know. I hate to be a pessimist. I hate to be yet another voice on the internet that laments how all the cheap fun cars have been purchased by stamp collectors who’ve inflated their values to the detriment of everyone but the wealthy elite who can afford them. And the collector car […]
Just because you could drive a vehicle on the street does not necessarily mean it is “street legal”…or does it? Does driving it around and having your local fuzz laugh at your mean it is legal or just tolerated? Street tolerated does have a good ring to it. Find this 2000 Dodge Neon-ish thing offered for $1195 […]
