Balena Bianca: 1994 Alfa Romeo 164LS
This next car comes as a tip from Erik202 who writes: Without looking at this car in person it’s hard to say but my feeling is the seller is overly enthusiastic about it’s condition. That being said, there doesnt seem to be any rust and the interior looks to be in great shape minus one shift knob. The fact that it appears to be parked in some type of car graveyard, however, makes me nervous about the mechanicals. Not so nervous I wouldn’t take a chance for $2900 ($2100USD) if I was closer. Find this 1994 Alfa Romeo 164 LS offered for $2900CAD ($2100USD) in Laval, QC via kijiji.net.

Montreal, where the roads are paved with salt. Guarantee there's rust lurking.
The Alfa 164 bodywork was constructed of galvanized steel. I had two for about ten years and they never showed any rust through many salt baths on Wisconsin roads in winter. Generally more of concern is the engine head gaskets, HVAC stepper motors, suspension bits, and steering rack mount. But… these are all fixable if you follow the Alfa blogs. When fixed up these are best handling sedans I've ever driven, and great long trip rides.
FWD BMW E36 M3 is what the 164 Q was. One of the best handling fwd cars of the era, better that any hot hatch, and an engine that could be tuned for far more bhp. Hard to find in the US. Good winter car.
