An Rover..An Acura…errr…A 1991 Sterling 827si

Sterling owners will tell you with a wide smile that they’ve got an Acura Legend with a cool badge, but what they won’t mention is the Rover connection. Because, from 1987 through 1991 ARCONA (Austin Rover Cars Of North America) imported a rebadged version of the Rover 800 series as the Sterling 825/827 for the US market.  Under the skin are the bones of an Acura Legend, which means the Sterling used Honda V6 engine mated to the front wheels…but the cars were still assembled in Oxford and electrified with Lucas electrics.  That means that the part that falls off in your lap during a spirited turn may or may not expose a faulty piece of wiring. If you don’t know how to use a multimeter and “Permatex Pit Crew’s Choice Adhesive”…you will soon. Find this 1991 Sterling 827Si offered for $5950 in Southfield, MI via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

1991 Sterling 827Si “Super Rare” 5 Speed Manual 4 Door Sedan (Think Acura Legend)

Rust free Florida car, Runs and drives perfectly, New Clutch installed August 2019, with receipts. A/C works, but freon does leak, original owner replaced the brake booster as well as the brake master cylinder and reservoir and front brake hoses all in last year of ownership (approx. 2017). New paint in 2018, interior shows some sun damage (cracking in dash, brittle wood trim, dehydrated leather headrests in rear seat). Rear passenger door power lock and window do not work. Minor oil seepage from oil pan gasket, $6400 or trade, looking for family car or hybrid but really open to anything of equal value, let me know what you have.

With a total known production of only 2,745 Sterling vehicles produced for the US Market in 1991, most were Automatics and this one is a very rare 5-speed manual transmission. This one enjoyed life in Florida with the original owner until just a year ago when the current owner brought her to Michigan (Original Florida title included with sale). It has the heart (and dependability) of the Honda as it’s “sister” is the Acura Legend and shared the Honda V6 200HP powerplant delivering a reported 24 highway mpg. The Sterling was made in England and sold through a select US dealer network. Expect the “luxury” of the Acura with all of the noted options. She’s a “driver” with a newer paint job and is ready to enjoy. The original MSRP “Window Sticker” is included along with a full shop repair manual. The odometer is about 2,000 miles off according to a statement by the original owner and is currently not working (per orig owner, needs speed transducer?).
