5k: TR7+1: 1980 Triumph TR8
The Triumph TR8 is the Rover V8 powered cousin of the wedge shaped TR7 and was built in limited quantities for the North American market from 1978-1980. TR8 enthusiasts estimate fewer than 1000 of the convertible versions still exist in various shape today, so finding on that is road worthy for $5k isn’t bad at all. Find this 1980 Triumph TR8 for sale in Colorado Springs, CO for $5,000 via craigslist. Thanks to tip from Zach Z.
Tipper Zach Z summed it up quite succinctly when he wrote to us: Roadable TR8 Project for For jus’ 5k. Sure, it has got some rust and the door-stop styling isn’t for everyone, but a factory V8 powered British convertible for a bit more than the price of a decent VW Beetle? Not bad.
The 3.5 liter alloy V8 is a descendant of the old Buick-Olds-Pontiac 215 V8 and is good for 133 horsepower in carburetor equipped configuration. The Rover V8 was evolved from a 60’s Buick design and is a great starting point for small displacement hot rod engine.

~ that isn't my idea of 'very minor rust'.
believe it or not the TR8 outperformed its contemporary stock Corvette in almost every category.
That must be Morris minor rust !
Good one!
