5k: Slo-Kart: 1973 Porsche 914 1.7

The Porsche 914 was a classic 2-seater from Porsche that was initially conceived as a  joint Volkswagen/Porsche project for a cheap sports car.  In the end the big cheeses at Porsche decided they didn’t want a version with the Vee-Dub emblem bringing down the price they could charge for their version, so only the Porsche badged version was released.  Either way, the little 2-seat targa equipped sports car is a great way to drive a classic.  Find this 1973 Porsche 914 found here on eBay currently bidding for $3,500 in Oklahoma City, OK with 3 days to go.

For years the Porsche 914 has been the cheap and easy way to drive a mid-engined classic with go-kart reflexes.  Prices were up in the early 2000s (what wasn’t?) but seem to have cooled a bit — however, even the lowly 1.7 liter cars demand decent coin according to hagerty.

This is the most basic of the Porsche 914 product line, and is powered by a 1.7 liter fuel-injected flat-4 that manages to develop 80 horsepower on a good day.  Expect to reach 60 mph about a bit over 13 seconds, an eternity by today’s standards, but good enough to be Porsche’s best selling model in 1973.
