5k: Recent Graduate: 1973 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce, Original Owner
The Alfa Romeo Spider is forever ensconced in common memory as Dustin Hoffman’s ride from the graduate…no not Anne Bancroft, his other ride, the…errr…topless one. Regardless, you don’t need drive across the Bay Bridge in the wrong direction to enjoy the simplicity of open top classic like the Alfa Spider. Find this 1973 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce for $7,400 from its original owner in Camarillo, CA via craigslist.
This Spider Veloce is for sale by its original owner, who says that it wears its original paint and has zero body damage. The personalized California blue plates are likely an indication that the car has been kept from from road salt and has lived in the dry west coast for most of its life.
The 2.0 liter inline-4 cylinder SPICA fuel injected engine puts out 129 horsepower and 131 ft-lbs of torque, all into a 5-speed manual transmission. This one shows a few spots of rust, but it is an Italian car, so that should be expected, like sauce on pasta or corruption in politics – both Italian specialties.
The inside of this Spider also looks great, but the seller mentions that it has problems common to “all Italian cars,” in this case a busted fuel/water gauges, and horns/lights.
