The Heart Song ‘Barracuda’ reached the 11th spot on the Billboard Top 100 in 1977 and despite what you may think, has nothing to do with the Plymouth Barracuda. The (Plymouth) Barracuda pre-dated the release of Ford’s Mustang, but they don’t call the sporty 2+2 genre the ‘Flesh-eating-fish-car’…it’s the Pony-car, probably because the Barracuda was not nearly as successful from a sales perspective. But don’t let the lack of buyers when new dissuade you from picking up a classic 2nd generation ‘Cuda. Find this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback project for sale in El Paso, TX, currently bidding at $3,200 on ebay with 2 days to go.
The fastback Barracuda has a love-it or hate-it look and this example is painted a shade of gold or tan that hasn’t been put on anything other than the inside of a baby’s diaper since about 1977.
The seller says this is a 273 V8, but the Barracuda should have come with a 318 in 1968, so either the engine is misidentified, swapped from an older vehicle or the vehicle is mis-labeled…any one of them could be the root cause.
The interior is in particularly horrible condition – even a simple cleaning would freshen up this car quite a bit and some new carpets would do wonders.
It will be interesting to see where this car ends up and we hope the new owner understands what kind of project he or she is getting into. This car will take a serious amount of money and time to get into good daily driver condition but could represent a good value if done smartly.
